Glendalough AC were officially ratified by the Wicklow County Board yesterday at the county board meeting in Greystones.

The meeting was presided over by Bill Porter, Parnell AC, and chairman of Wicklow County Board. The Wicklow County Board consists of two members from each of the athletics clubs within Wicklow county: Roundwood and District, Parnell AC (Rathdrum), Inbhear Dee, Greystones and District AC, Kilcoole AC, St. Benedict's Arklow, Aughrim AC, Lakeshore Striders (Blessington), Ashford AC, Enniskerry AC and Bray Runners.
Glendalough AC was represented at the meeting by René Borg, chairman and head coach, and Yvonne Brennan, Children's Officer. The application for official ratification was unanimously accepted by the Wicklow County Board which welcomed our new club into 'the fold' and extended an open invitation to reach out for any help and advice needed.
Our club would like to thank the Wicklow County Board for the warm welcome and look forward to contributing to athletics in Wicklow County and competing on road, mountain, trail, track and cross-country over the coming years.
Next steps
The next step for our club will be to apply for registration with Athletics Ireland and to ensure all coaching staff go through the Gardai vetting procedure and key coaching staff take the Code of Ethics training. We must also apply for membership of Leinster Athletics for which the club will need to budget a small annual fee in addition to the Athletics Ireland registration.
Formal AGM to elect full-time Committee and adopt the provisional constitution is expected to take place on Thursday 15th of January. We will confirm date and open up the floor for motions to be submitted shortly. After the AGM we will open up for membership fees to be paid and begin registering members officially with the AAI. This will enable you to compete for Glendalough AC officially in championship events.
