NEWS: Upcoming initiatives and next steps

Athletics WicklowA quick update to all members and prospective members. After the successful completion of the inaugural meeting, our provisional Committee will now meet with Wicklow County Board at 20:15 on December 2nd for formal ratification.

At this meeting the other clubs will have the opportunity to ask about our intentions for the future and assess the application. We expect this will be positively received for the reasons stated at the inaugural meeting and our club will be represented by the Chairman and Children's Officer (see below).

Men's and Ladies' Captains

We need nominations for Men's and Ladies' captains. Please do not be shy to nominate yourself as many in the club will not yet know each other.

The key skills for the captains are:

  • Experience in a wide variety of competition on road, track, cross-country and mountain running (not all necessary, but competitive experience is desirable)
  • Interest in motivating and helping out gathering teams for events such as the Wicklow Way Relay, Road Relays, County Championships and cross-country events
  • Desire to learn or ability help with warm-ups and 'tactics talks' along with the coaches ahead of events
As captain you basically need to be able to show leadership, help out beginners with friendly advice and support the coaches as necessary.

All nominations, comments and submissions to rene@championseverywhere.com or mairead@gmail.com.
